R. Jansen
Communication errors in a large-scale BIM project can cause enormous problems. Ensuring all parties’ understanding of the deliverables is the key to success. Join IMAGINiT Technologies expert John Jansen as he provides an in-depth analysis into the levels of BIM development and how to avoid potential costly mistakes. This session will explore how you can be more precise in your delivery of BIM products to ensure clients/owners are getting exactly what they ask for and are 110% satisfied with the end result. |

4 Different Building Skins, 3 Different Installers: Use of BIM to Identify Issues Between Shop Drawings and the Design ModelNathan Wood In this session, you will see how BIM was used to identify issues between sub-contractor shop drawings and the architect’s design model for the exterior skin of the Sutter Medical Center Castro Valley project, due to be completed in 2013. This bowtie shaped, 7-story patient tower extends up through a 3-story rectangular podium, creating complex skin interfaces at odd angles and differing elevations. The difficulty for DPR and the rest of the Building Team was ensuring that the shop drawings from each of the three detailers aligned perfectly with each other as well as the architectural 3D model. The team also faced challenges coordinating skin connections around the immense amount of rebar and steel in this seismically-compliant hospital. For example, 200+ in/out connections were coordinated with rebar and drilled. The precast subcontractor did not originally account for rebar spacing during design. More than 50 of those connections were moved during BIM model coordination. |

Getting Real with BIM, GIS and Facility Management: The Huge Opportunity for 21st Century Architects, Engineers, Contractors and OwnersKimon Onuma Using your iPads, laptops or handheld devices, discover how real time interaction on the Internet is possible today through BIMStorms. In this real time, interactive session you will see first hand how cloud computing through the Internet with interconnected applications allows all levels of users to collaborate with open standards based information in unprecedented ways. Kimon Onuma, a leader in the BIM world and creator of BIMStorms, will demonstrate how you can maximize the value of the “I” of BIM to meet the sustainability goals of the 2030 challenge + Executive Order 13514 can be addressed with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the cloud. The session is geared for all levels and illustrates how to make facility information more connected and relevant today, so that the final product is a sustainable high performance building completed on time, within budget, and aesthetically designed for future needs.
