Dear Colleague,

More and more health care providers, be they nurses or physicians with laptops and smart phones, are accessing healthcare records from more places now that governments and healthcare organizations of every size are making significant investments in electronic health records (EHRs) and electronic medical records (EMRs).

At this Insight conference you will hear all about initiatives now underway that will contribute to the ability of healthcare organizations to realize an electronic records system that will promote more efficient and safer healthcare and that will have the ability to span jurisdictions at all levels. The challenges associated with the design and implementation of such systems, are many and often very complex. Staying abreast of developments and latest strategies is crucial in order to effectively move these projects forward in a coordinated and coherent manner.

There are multiple goals associated with the implementation of ehealth solutions including improved outcomes and more efficient, timely and safe patient care. The EHR is the future of health care and will allow access to the right patient information at the right time thereby ensuring that health care professionals make timely and effective diagnoses and provide the best possible treatment and care based on all the relevant information.

Other significant areas of application and anticipated benefits are: health system use of data (secondary use), clinical program development, health system administration, population health (surveillance) and research. As cooperation and collaboration becomes more and more necessary to the effective delivery of care, electronic records will be essential to facilitate this team approach through better information sharing among health providers.

Aligning provincial legislation to reflect and accommodate the movement of patients and to facilitate the accessibility of their records across provincial boundaries is also of prime importance. Ensuring a secure network and protected domains in this exchange of information brings many new challenges. The importance of security, privacy and access controls is not only respectful for patient confidentiality but is legislatively mandated. Staying current with technical and legal developments is must.

This forum provides opportunities for sharing and networking on topics that are relevant to you all.

Don’t miss this essential update from an expert faculty to who will provide you with leading edge solutions and developments.

We look forward to sharing this informative and useful experience with you.

Sincerely,
